Meet Brandy

Ms. Brandy L. L. Byrd, a proud Houston, Texas native, has called the Killeen Central  Texas area home for the past 17 years, where she has dedicated herself to both her  family and a distinguished career in finance and public service.

From an early age, Ms. Byrd displayed a commitment to service, commencing her career at just 16 with the United States Coast Guard's Vessel Documentation Department as a Student Aide. Her journey continued when she joined the United States Army as an Accounting Specialist after high school, evolving into a Financial Management Technician with the reorganization of the U.S. Army Finance Corps.

Throughout her military service, Ms. Byrd achieved significant milestones, earning the Air Assault Badge at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, and playing a vital role at the Defense Finance Accounting Service, where she personally oversaw the repatriation of Americans displaced by war. Noteworthy achievements include her hands-on involvement in implementing groundbreaking systems like the Deployable Disbursing System (DDS), Defense Travel System (DTS), and the Eagle Pay Stored Value Card—innovations that revolutionized the mobile deployment of troops.

Ms. Byrd's military accolades, including the Joint Service Commendation Medal and multiple Army Achievement Medals, underscore her dedication and excellence. Following her honorable retirement from the U.S. Army, Ms. Byrd earned an associate degree from Central Texas College and a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas.

Post-graduation, Ms. Byrd continued to channel her financial acumen in service to the public, working at the Texas Water Development Board as a Financial Analyst. There, she assisted municipalities in securing low-interest loans for water projects, contributing to the sustainable development of communities across the state.

Ms. Byrd's commitment to aiding military personnel transitioning into civilian life was evident in her role at Ft. Cavazos, where she provided invaluable financial workshops and budget preparation courses to ease soldiers into the civilian sector.

Subsequently, Ms. Byrd furthered her dedication to public service at Veterans Affairs as a Financial Accounts Technician, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations while serving the veteran community.

Currently engaged in the realm of politics, Ms. Byrd continues to embody her commitment to public service, leveraging her extensive background in finance and military service to contribute to the betterment of her community.
